Interviewer: Margaret, your company has been providing instructional design and multimedia development services for a while now, right?
MH: Yes, Hollinger Training Solutions has been developing training since 1992. We have produced about 1000 customized interactive training programs to meet our clients' learning needs.
We produce training at all levels of complexity. We have been particularly effective in converting classroom to online training. We have also been involved in some very complex projects. Last year we produced 27 online courses for a global audience in 32 languages. We used a database to dynamically display the language selected by the learner. This saved a lot of expense and development time because only one version of the program was needed to display all languages.
Interviewer: When clients come to you, what do they usually need?
MH: They might be launching a new product, training new hires, building certification programs, or integrating new business processes using a variety of media, including the Internet, corporate intranets, PowerPoint presentations, CD-ROM, database management and local and wide-area networks. But it seems that each year brings new ways and new technology to help employees, customers and partners learn what our clients need for them to learn.
Interviewer: At what point in the project do you begin working with clients?
MH: We find that the earlier we begin collaborating the better. We've seen many different types of learning challenges. So we can help clients make decisions early in the process that enable them to meet their goals on time and under budget. New clients are often surprised at how we can help them in ways they didn't anticipate. This is especially important at a time when more is being asked of everyone and funds are tighter.
Interviewer: Tell me about your team. You work in a variety of media. It must take a team with a wide range of skill sets.
MH: Our core group is comprised of highly experienced instructional designers, programmers, and graphic artists with exceptional credentials and a lot of experience. A major key to our success is that our core team has remained virtually the same for over a decade. Working as a team, we have developed our expertise and fine-tuned our work processes and know-how to work efficiently to complete projects.
Additionally, we have a network of professionals who partner with us to meet extraordinary needs.
Interviewer: Anything else you would like to say about your team?
MH: We listen. It doesn't matter how many times we've done it before, the next project will be different.
